In 2025, the storage capacity utilisation of the I²SysBio Data Processing Centre (CPD) increased to approximately 77%, a figure approaching the recommended threshold of 80%. The acquisition of a new storage and computing infrastructure through FAS funding has provided the system with enhanced storage and computational capacity, thereby improving the cluster’s resilience and stability in the event of hardware failures. Expanding the system is essential to ensure the successful delivery of the Institute’s current and future projects, which increasingly demand greater computational power and storage capabilities
The I²SysBio Sustainability Committee has undertaken substantial work throughout the year, implementing environmentally responsible policies and practices, including the incorporation of carbon‑footprint calculations into the monthly billing report of the institute’s computing cluster. In addition, the Commission promoted the creation of the CSIC Network of Sustainability Committees at the regional level.
As a result of the efforts carried out during 2025, the institute obtained the LEAF Bronze certification for sustainable laboratory practices across all its research groups, as well as the Green Disc Bronze certification for sustainable computing awarded to the Genomics of Gene Expression group.
In 2025, I²SysBio obtained funding through competitive public and private grants at the regional, national, European, and international levels. The project budget for the year is presented below. Moreover, I²SysBio formalized additional funding through direct agreements and contractual collaborations with industry partners, which are likewise reflected in the financial overview.

I²SysBio is launching a series of videos presenting the research groups to raise awareness of the work being carried out at the centre. Under the I²SysBio motto, “Unravelling the secrets of life through systems thinking”, these short interviews aim to explain how the different research groups seek to uncover these secrets of life using approaches typical of systems biology, employing both experimental and computational tools. The interview recording project was carried out with funding from the Valencian Agency for Innovation (IVACE+i) through the talent-promotion project ‘Innovation Agent’ INNTA1/2024/3.

16 octubre 2025In 2025, I²SysBio published 60 news on its institutional website, including official press releases. These communications generated 228 mentions across mainstream media outlets, reflecting the Institute’s increasing visibility and commitment to public science communication
In 2025, I²SysBio hosted 37 scientific seminars, including four focused on innovation, alongside five institutional events. In addition, several guided tours of the centre’s facilities were organised throughout the year for secondary school and university students.
Researchers from I²SysBio actively contributed to the organisation of conferences, colloquia, and debates, such as Darwin Day, Earth Day, the Matinal d’Evolució, and Biophyzza 2025.
Moreover, I²SysBio continued to promote cross-cutting initiatives that reinforce its commitment to research integrity and science outreach. In this context, the Institute hosted the course ‘Gender Equality in Science’, organised a training workshop on measures for LGTBIQA+ equality in research, and presented the exhibition ‘Training the Feminist Gaze’, all coordinated by its Equity and Inclusion Commission.
In 2025, I²SysBio actively participated in several science dissemination initiatives, including Expociencia, Pint of Science, Ciència i canyes, and the Women and Girls in Science Day.
In 2025, I²SysBio participated in the seventh edition of the Amgen TransferCiència educational programme, aimed at bridging the gap between research and schools in the Valencian Community during the academic year. This edition was marked by the signing of a collaboration agreement between I²SysBio and Amgen, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to science outreach and knowledge transfer. Promoted by the biotechnology company Amgen and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI), the initiative seeks to inspire scientific vocations—particularly in genetics and biotechnology—among secondary and sixth-form students, bringing real science into the classroom through direct interaction with researchers.
In addition, the Institute conducted outreach workshops at more than 22 secondary schools and educational centers, engaging over 1,000 students and reinforcing its commitment to science education and societal impact.
